African Safari Parks

The second largest continent in the world hosts a wide variety of Safari Parks. 53 countries with different cultures, habits and wildlife are spread throughout the continent.

The safari concept origins from these lands; the parks are some of the most beautiful and most famous in the world. Africa is especially recognized for its larger mammals, also referred to as the big 5: elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo. The wildlife gathering on this continent is probably the most impressive collection in the world.

The climates in Africa range from tropical in the south to sub-artic in the upper north. The northern part of the continent is mainly desert, while the centre and south have great plains and dense tropical forest. The variety of climates is base to the amazing animal population. Inland you will find carnivores, herbivores, reptiles etc. Animals threatened by extinction in the rest of the world are still numerous in Africa. Lions, elephant, rhinos, they all live in large troops on the African savanna.

The coasts of Africa are full of fish, amphibians and even crocodiles. The coastline of the continent, plus the great lakes in eastern Africa host over 3000 species of fish.

The word safari is used all over the world, but it origins in Africa. Safari means journey in Swahili and the Europeans used it to indicate a big game hunt in Africa. Nowadays a Safari is a tour trough a park, with tourists taking pictures of the local wildlife. You will drive in a jeep, or in some cases your own vehicle, trough the park while wild animals are curiously staring at you or having their daily meal.

Every country in Africa has its own flora and fauna, which results in a difference between the safari parks throughout the continent. In the northern parts you will find jackals, snakes en camels. While further to the south you will find the bigger mammals such as elephant, lions and rhinos.

Whether you are looking for information or already choose your African destination, this African safari park guide will give you a lot of information about the different countries and the wildlife you will be able to see here.
